This Week!

Below is the Parent Teacher conference schedule for this week.  If you are no longer able to make your conference time please let me know before your conference date to reschedule.  My goal is to meet with each family to share with you about your child's work in 3rd grade!

Week of October 13th!

Wow!  The first six weeks of school sure has flown by!  We have already accomplished so much.
- We established our hopes and dreams.
- Created rules to guide our classroom community.
- Made new friends and learned how to solve problems with our friends.
- Completed our first units of reading, writing, math, science, and social studies.
- We have even taken our first field trip!

Two of our scientists have been carefully observing nature lately.  Desmond and Isaiah found a tiger swallowtail caterpillar on the playground and then a blue spotted salamander in the woods.  We'll have to ask these two clever scientists about their work!

Parent Teacher conferences begin this week.  Please see the schedule below for this Wednesday, October 15th.  If for some reason you are no longer able to make your conference appointment please be so kind as to contact me before Wednesday to reschedule.

Finally the Mitchell Fun Run takes place this Friday!  Our class is scheduled to run from 1-1:40.  I'm bringing my running shoes and you are welcome to join us too!

Week of September 29th

Parent Teacher Conferences
If you have not yet signed up for a parent teacher conference please return the yellow form sent home last week with 1-2 times marked that will work for you.

Picture Day
Picture Day is this Tuesday, Sept 30th.  All children will have their picture taken even if you choose not to purchase a picture package.  Should you wish to purchase pictures please send the form and money to school no later than Tuesday morning.

Count Day
Count Day is this Wednesday, October 1st.  Please do your best to have your child in school on Wednesday.

Dismissal Time
This is just a reminder that school ends at 3:42 each day.  Please plan to have your child stay until the end of the school day.  When your child has an appointment that requires them to leave early, please sign them out in the office and the office will call down to the classroom for your child.  

Our Classroom Rules

We developed a list of things we would need to do in our classroom to support our own learning and the learning of those around us.  We used this list to write our classroom rules.

Talk with your child about what these rules look and sound like each day in our classroom!

Week of September 22nd

Coming home this week...
If you have not yet signed up for a parent teacher conference a sign-up form will be going home this week.  Please indicate 1 or 2 times you are available.  I will send home a completed conference schedule as soon as all conferences are scheduled.  My goal is to meet with all families during parent-teacher conferences as we begin to work together to make your child's 3rd grade year one full of learning and fun!

Week of September 15th

Our 3rd grade year is off to a successful start!  We have been busy learning new routines and procedures, such as how to follow our classroom schedule and what it means to show listening behavior.  We have been working on creating our classroom rules--more to come on that soon!

In science we investigated different materials to build boats and then made hypotheses about which material would work best.  We all started our year long study of the solar system by beginning to investigate how our shadows changed throughout the day.

This week we will begin our Fall NWEA testing.  Your child will be taking the math portion of this assessment on Thursday.  Help your child do their best by ensuring they get a good night's sleep and a healthy breakfast.

Curriculum Night

Our annual curriculum night takes place this Tuesday, September 9th.  Come join us and see what your child will be learning about this year!
