The engaging work around birds of prey in our classroom has been phenomenal. The best part, it has all be driven by questions the students have been asking! We began by reading a book about birds of prey to talk more about non-fiction text features, but that led to lots of questions about the characteristics of these birds, what they ate, and how they catch their food. So, we began our research! We watched a video of a Golden Eagle hunting a hare. Click
here and scroll down to watch it. Then we began studying owls and their food.
We used field guides to learn about different kinds of birds.
Then the Leslie Science and Nature Center visited to teach us about physical characteristics of raptors and their adaptations for flight.
Finally we got to watch them fly! Video to come soon!
