Week of 10/22-26

Parent Teacher Conferences
Parent teacher conferences continue this week on Monday and Thursday evening.  Please scroll down to find a post with the current conference schedule to confirm your conference time.  If for some reason you are no longer able to make your conference please contact me prior to the conference at padgensa@aaps.k12.mi.us or (734) 997-1216.  Thanks for you consideration!

Donations Needed!
With cold and flu season right around the corner we would appreciate donations of facial tissue as well as disinfecting wipes.

Fall Festival
Fall Festival is this Friday October 26, 2012.  This is Mitchell School's annual celebration of all things fall.  Children may choose to wear a costume to the event.  Please no costumes during the school day.

Unit 3 Math
Our new unit of math begins by focusing on telling time and counting coins.  Practice these skills at home with your child by having them help you count your change or by noticing the time.  In a world of cell phones and digital clocks it takes more practice to learn to tell time "the old fashioned way"!

Gravel Pit

Our trip to the Gravel Pit was a huge success!  We discovered igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic rocks.  Some of us found fossils while others of us got to slide down a 2.5 billion year old rock!  Our rock collections will be staying at school for a short while to be used as part of our unit.  Thanks to the parents that were able to join us today.

Week of 10/8

Weekly News:
This Thursday is our trip to the Fox Science Preserve Gravel Pit.  Please make sure your child is dressed for the weather.  This is an outdoor trip.  Warm, comfortable children enjoy the outdoors so please make sure your child has a jacket and good walking shoes.  Each child needs a plastic gallon milk/juice jug to carry their rock collection.  We would appreciate extras if you have them! I will be contacting parents who returned the chaperone form with details for Thursday.

Parent Teacher Conferences are coming up beginning next week.  I will be sending reminders home in your child's take home folder about the day and time of your conference.  If for some reason you are unable to make your conference time please contact me to reschedule.

Author Celebration

We have been working hard during Writing Workshop to write stories of events from our lives that give us big, strong feelings.  We learned about adding details and ending to make our stories interesting.  We celebrated our hard work together last Friday by adding our stories to the writing corner.  Next time your at school come take a look!
