News and Announcements
Science
A riddle for you...
Mitchell Fun Run
Your child brought home a packet of information about the upcoming Fun Run at Mitchell School. Please consider supporting the school by volunteering and/or helping your child to raise money.
Spanish
The children participated in the first Spanish lesson of the year. We learned how to ask how someone is doing and then reply. Try it out with your child at home!
¿Cómo estás? --How are you?
Muy Bien! --I'm good!
Mas o menos or asi asi--I'm okay.
Mal--I'm not good.
MEAP
Third graders in the state of Michigan take the MEAP test each Fall in reading and math. We will begin talking about strategies to use to solve multiple choice questions as well as ways to respond to a reading passage in writing. Help your child by encouraging them to do their best!
Dr. Swift to visit Mitchell
Dr. Swift will be visiting Mitchell to meet with parents and families this Thursday, September 26 at 6:30.
Science
A riddle for you...
I am always with you on a sunny day,
but when it's cloudy, I cannot play.
Sometimes I'm small, sometimes, I'm tall.
Other times, I am not there at all.
You cannot run away from me, even if you try.
Who am I?
Can you figure out what we have been studying in science? Ask your child for the solution!

Week of September 16-20
NWEA
Our first day of NWEA Assessment was postponed due to technical difficulties. Students will complete their final day of NWEA testing this Tuesday.
Writing Journals
We will begin personalizing our writing journals this week using pictures, drawings, etc that represent important people, places, and events in our lives. I'm hoping that our writing journals will represent important memories in our lives and help remind students of all the things they can write about. Please help your child choose pictures or make small drawings to bring to school. We will personalize our journals on Friday.
Mitchell Fun Run
The Mitchell PTO is organizing a Fun Run this year to raise funds to school programs and field trips. The kick-off assembly will be Friday 9/20 at 2:30. Families are invited to attend.
Donations Needed!
Our classroom is looking for donations of kleenex, hand sanitizer, anti-bacterial table wipes, sandwich size zip-top bags, and yellow #2 pencils. Thanks in advance for any support you can provide!

Welcome Ms. Macadangdang
Our classroom community this year is fortunate to have an intern from the University of Michigan. Ms. Macadangdang is currently pursuing her Master's of Education and elementary teaching certificate. Please welcome her to our Mitchell community!
I studied Political Science and Spanish with a minor in music as an undergraduate at the University of Michigan, and have spent the past four years living in Indonesia, where I taught English phonics to Indonesian Chinese kindergarteners. I enjoyed teaching them so much that I decided to return to the University of Michigan to do the Elementary Masters with Certification (ELMAC) program. As a child, I had the same teacher for both 2nd and 3rd grade, and she taught us many things that I still remember to this day through songs! I still enjoy singing and connecting daily conversation to song lyrics. When I'm not teaching, you will probably find me enjoying the great outdoors, learning languages, running, swimming, creating things, or spending time with friends and family.
