A note from the media center...

The Mitchell library media center is seeking donations of old sheets. They make great dust sheets for covering the bookcases over the summer and are more ecologically responsible than using paper and throwing it away when school starts up. If you have sheets to donate please drop them off in the library.

Thank you from Ms. Reader

Biography Writing Project

Staff Biographies Website Section - NEW!

As part of the second grade writing curriculum, Ms. Padgen’s class completed a non-fiction writing unit focused on writing biographies about the Mitchell Staff.   This project, led by Ms. Sala, a U-M teaching intern, gave students an opportunity to practice these skills by developing interview questions, conducting and recording interviews, and returning to the recorded interviews to gather information for writing.

We are excited to present these biographies as a part of the Mitchell School website so everyone could learn more about the great people we have at Mitchell.  This means our non-fiction writing has a real audience and student work is connected to a real-world purpose!   We hope you enjoy learning about the Mitchell staff.

One of our favorite parts of the trip was studying insect life cycles at the pond.  Here we are using nets to collect insect specimens.

There were lots of invertebrates...
Fairy Shrimp...

Mosquito larva and...

Week of April 22nd!

Happy Earth Day!
We talk a lot about science, nature, and communities in our classroom. Ask your child what is important to them this Earth Day!

LSNC Field Trip
We will be traveling to the Leslie Science and Nature Center on Monday, April 22nd.  The bus will leave school at 11:30 and return at 2:30.  If you would like to join your child on this trip please consider following the bus or meeting us there as there has been a lot of parent interest in this trip.  It looks like the weather will be wonderful tomorrow--make sure your child comes dressed to keep warm and dry!

Author Celebration!

Our author celebration was a huge success!  We had so much fun sharing our "All About" books with each other and learning new information.  Thanks to Dr. Eila for coming back so we could share our books with you.
