This Week

In our classroom we have been talking about ways to make sure everyone feels included in our classroom community both during academic times as well as during lunch and freetime.  Take a minute to talk with your child about what they might do to pass along positive feelings--will they smile at a friend, invite someone to play, or give a gentle reminder?

Report Letters go home Tuesday November 26th.  This is also the last day of school before Thanksgiving Break.

Birds of Prey

The engaging work around birds of prey in our classroom has been phenomenal.  The best part, it has all be driven by questions the students have been asking!  We began by reading a book about birds of prey to talk more about non-fiction text features, but that led to lots of questions about the characteristics of these birds, what they ate, and how they catch their food.  So, we began our research!  We watched a video of a Golden Eagle hunting a hare.  Click here and scroll down to watch it.  Then we began studying owls and their food.
We used field guides to learn about different kinds of birds.
Then the Leslie Science and Nature Center visited to teach us about physical characteristics of raptors and their adaptations for flight.

Finally we got to watch them fly!  Video to come soon!

Spanish Class

In our Spanish classes we have been practicing letters and numbers.  Look at how many numbers we know now!
