Our Scientists!

This week the students at Mitchell participated in our annual science fair.  Below are our classroom scientists!

How does a volcano erupt?
"I tested whether baking soda or baking powder would make a better eruption.  Baking soda worked the best."

Which flowers absorb water the fastest?
"The daisy absorbs water fastest because we observed and watched the daisies petals change color.  It changed faster than the carnation."

How are stalactites formed?
" I learned that stalactites form in caves from minerals."

Monarchs and Migration

The Monarch migration has begun.  We've been checking the Journey North website and noticed that the butterflies are beginning to travel north.  Surprisingly scientists are finding the Monarch population is at an all time low.  Explore the Journey North website to track the migration and learn more about what is happening to the Monarch population.

Rock 'n' Roll Band

Rock 'n' Roll Band
by Shel Silverstein

If we were a rock'n' roll band,
We'd travel all over the land.
We'd play and we'd sing and wear spangly things,
If we were a rock 'n' roll band.

If we were a rock 'n' roll band,
And we were up there on the stand.
The people would hear us and love us and cheer us,
Hurray for that rock 'n' roll band.

If we were a rock 'n' roll band,
Then we'd have a million hans.
We'd giggle and laugh and sign autographs,
If we were a rock 'n' roll band.

If we were a rock 'n' roll band,
The people would all kiss our hands.
We'd be millionaires and have extra long hair,
If we were a rock 'n' roll band.

But we ain't no rock 'n' roll band,
We're just seven kids in the sand
With homemade guitars and pails and jars
And drums of potato chip cans.

Just seven kids in the sand,
Talkin' and wavin' our hands,
And dreamin' and thinkin' oh wouldn't it be grand,
If we were a rock 'n' roll band.

826 Michigan
We had a great trip to 826 Michigan last Friday.  We learned about all the parts of a story and used our imaginations to create a story that even Dr. Blotch would accept!  Thank you to the amazing staff of 826 for making this a memorable trip for us.
