This Week

Need a Pet?
Our Mitchell School first graders studied goldfish this year as part of their science unit.  There are still a few goldfish looking for a good home.  If you would be interested in a pet for your family please let me know.

Greenfield Village
Our last field trip of the year is to Greenfield Village.  Last week a letter went home asking families if they would like to join us.  There are tickets available to cover the cost of adult admission although these tickets must be ordered in advance.  Please return this form no later than June 4th so we can plan for tickets and chaperone groups.

Sharing Our Stories

We have been working hard to study the ways in which authors write books to make them interesting.  We noticed that stories start with a setting, in the middle there is usually a problem, and in the end the characters solve the problem.  Then we noticed the ways in which authors make their stories interesting by using dialogue and big, strong feelings.  We used all we had learned from authors to write our own personal narrative stories.   Here we are reading them to our 1st grade friends.

Week of May 13th

NWEA Testing--We will be taking the NWEA Test Monday-Thursday this week.  The first two days will be reading and the last two days will be math.  Help your child do their very best thinking by making sure they sleep well and eat a healthy breakfast.

Students are so excited to begin learning about cursive.  Schoolwork and homework should still be turned in using printed handwriting.

Scarlett Mitchell Woods Walk

We had an absolutely beautiful day to explore spring in the forest.  The highlight of the trip for me was finding a blue spotted salamander and the fields of trillium were impressive as well!

Thank You Ms. Sala

Ms. Sala's time in our classroom has come to an end.  We wish you all the best in your teaching career!
