Week of December 1st
Birds of Prey
We are beginning an informational reading and writing unit around our study of habitats and adaptations, particularly in Birds of Prey. We have been reading non-fiction texts about these creatures while also learning how authors use non-fiction text to teach their reader new information.
The Leslie Science an Nature Center will be visiting Mitchell with 3 of their resident Birds of Prey for a program entitled, "Adaptations in Flight."
See adaptations in action when a raptor flies inside your school! Get an up close look at the physical structures, feather types and wing shapes that allow these predators to survive in the wild. After watching a live flight demonstration, students will get the opportunity to meet two other raptor family members to explore their adaptations in person.
Thank you to LSNC and their donors for providing Adopt-A-Class Funds to bring this program to our school. For more information on LSNC and their birds visit their website at: http://www.lesliesnc.org
